Music Review of Apabad – Nepali Movie

These days Nepali Movie Apabad is creating a buzz throughout the country which is all set to release on 15th June i.e 1st of Ashad. Apabad is in hype as some people quoted that it’s the copy of Hollywood movie “In to the Wild”. The movie cast Raj Ballav Koirala, Nisha Adhikari, Rabi Giri and Bijaya Giri and is directed by Subash Koirala. The movie is jointly produced by Sushan Prajapati, Suraj Koirala, Upendra Lamichhane and Bikash Duwal (Executive Producer).

There are all together four songs in the movie. All songs are written and composed by  Ujjwal Meghi Gurung. Out of four songs two songs – “Ye Dautari” and “Afnai Bato” are sang by composer himself. The song ” Chanchal Chanchal” is sang by Sugam Pokharel and Samjhana Humagain and the song “Raichha Naya” by Shiva Pariyar. Ujjwal Meghi Gurung is new to Nepali Music Industry and he sounds promising.

1. Ye Dautrai
Singer : Ujjwal Meghi Gurung
Music Director : Ujjwal Meghi Gurung
Lyricist : Ujjwal Meghi Gurung

The rhythm of the guitar sets the mood straightway and the Ujjwal Meghi enters with the whistle to give us “Ye Dautari”, one of the best song of the album. Although Ujjwal’s voice reminds me of Sugam Pokharel. The lyrics has realistic touch especially the few lines of first antara which resembles the day to day life of most of the youth these days. It’s already a hit and ruling a chart box.

2. Chancal Chancal
Singer : Sugam Pokharel / Samjhana Humagain
Music Director : Ujjwal Meghi Gurung
Lyricist : Ujjwal Meghi Gurung

This  is the soft romantic duet song sang by Sugam Pokharel and Samjhana Humagain. This song is for those people who prefer to listen romantic song. It is one of the better song Sugam has sung lately. Again nice lyrics and composition of  Ujjwal Meghi. The combination of flute, guitar and keyboard at the beginning and after the end of first antara sounds great and touches the soul.

3. Afnai Bato
Singer : Ujjwal Meghi Gurung
Music Director : Ujjwal Meghi Gurung
Lyricist : Ujjwal Meghi Gurung

As one moves forward to “Afnai Bato”, a song starts with yodeling  and Ujjwal Meghi’s vocal which gives song a good start but he fails  maintaining the clarity in diction in some portion of the song especially at the beginning. A hummable tune with simple yet effective lyrics and composition.

4. Raicha Naya
Singer : Shiva Pariyar
Music Director : Ujjwal Meghi Gurung
Lyricist : Ujjwal Meghi Gurung

This is the last track of the movie which starts with the pleasant sound of piano. Shiva Pariyar present this song in quite different flavor leaving behind his usual trend. So soothing and pleasant at the beginning and ends with soft rock.

Overall, Ujjwal Meghi Gurung has done a great job writing and composing the tracks that sounds fresh. All songs are simply nice and will grab instant attention but the composition of  last two songs “Afnai Bato” and Raicha Naya” somehow sounds similar. Nepali Music Industry can expect more from this guy Ujjwal Meghi in future.

So guys this is my view about the songs of Apabad, whats your??? Your comments and suggestions are highly appreciable :)

Theatrical Trailer and Synopsis of Nepali Movie APABAD

Synopsis:

There is a social wind behind every one of us, it takes us through our lives, we never see it, and we cannot command it and we don’t even know its purpose. This is story of Suyog: Young and intelligent with his own set of ideals and beliefs. His perspective towards society and perception of the people around him are very individualistic. And he lives a dream hoping one day it gets fulfilled. But the wind blows against him, he tries to get up every time, only to be forced to the ground again. His hopes fade away and the wind takes him over. What he does after that, how he finds his dream and happiness… is an exception! Apabad is a contemporary story of thousands of youth of middle class families. It is an instance of belligerence of two different schools of thoughts — one being the conventional thought which plays by the rules of social dogmas and another more sophisticated and raw in nature, guided by freewill. Apabad is the story of anguish of an individual and his inevitable braking away towards hysteria; it shows the consequence of choices that people make in utter dismay. It justifies the thought, “when there is nothing left to burn you have to set yourself on fire.” However, it does tell us that hope is not only the good thing but the best thing. One has to explore the darkness, willing or unwilling, to understand the meaning of light. How a soul tries to preserve his purity in a dystopian world. Apabad is a measure of patience and persistence to achieve one’s goal in life. It is a question that we have asked ourselves in many crossroads of life and how one among us dared to stand for what he believes. Apabad is a story of an outlaw who puts a blindfold to pragmatism and walks in self-professed path of liberation and realization.
